Eddie Van Halen: “Guitar Picks & Magnets Gave Me Cancer, Not Smoking”

Eddie Van Halen has been a longtime smoker, but he’s not blaming that for causing his cancer. Eddie was diagnosed with tongue cancer in 2000, and he had to have a third of his tongue removed before being declared cancer-free. But at the time, that didn’t stop him from smoking . . . and to this day he isn’t sure that cigarettes were the problem.

Eddie said in a recent interview:

“I used metal guitar picks, brass and copper . . . which I always held in my mouth, in the exact place where I got the tongue cancer.  Plus, I basically live in a recording studio that’s filled with electromagnetic energy. So that’s one theory.  I mean, I was smoking and doing a lot of drugs and a lot of everything.  But at the same time, my lungs are totally clear.  This is just my own theory, but the doctors say it’s possible.”

Eddie recently quit smoking cigarettes and has moved on to “vaping”.
